Lewis Hamilton
Bio
Sir Lewis Hamilton is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the history of motorsport. Born in Stevenage to a working-class family, he began racing go-karts at age six, with his father Anthony working multiple jobs to fund his early career. After joining the McLaren Young Driver Programme, Hamilton stormed into Formula One in 2007, nearly winning the title as a rookie. He secured his first World Championship the following year (2008), becoming the youngest Formula One champion in history at the time.
Known for his blistering qualifying pace, racecraft, and consistency, Hamilton moved to Mercedes-AMG Petronas in 2013—a decision that defined an era. From 2014 to 2020, he dominated the sport, winning six additional titles to equal Michael Schumacher’s record of seven World Drivers' Championships. He holds the all-time records for most wins (105), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (202). Off the track, Hamilton has become a leading voice for racial equality, environmental justice, and diversity in motorsport, launching The Hamilton Commission and Mission 44.
Knighted in the 2021 New Year Honours, he is also a passionate advocate for veganism, a Grammy-nominated music collaborator, and a influential figure in streetwear fashion. His 2021 season finale loss to Max Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix remains one of the most controversial moments in sports history. Now racing for Ferrari beginning in 2025, Hamilton continues to chase an unprecedented eighth world title.
