Bio

Jalen Hurts is an American football quarterback best known as the leader of the Philadelphia Eagles and one of the NFL’s most accomplished dual-threat stars. Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in the Houston-area community of Channelview, Hurts grew up in a football family and developed under the guidance of his father, Averion Hurts, a high school football coach. His discipline, leadership, and competitive toughness became defining traits early in his athletic career.

Hurts first gained national attention at the University of Alabama, where he became a major figure in one of college football’s premier programs. As a true freshman in 2016, he took over as Alabama’s starting quarterback and helped lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC championship and a College Football Playoff National Championship Game appearance. That season, he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year, establishing himself as one of the top young quarterbacks in college football.

During his time at Alabama, Hurts became known for his mobility, poise, and winning record. He helped Alabama remain a national championship contender and was part of the Crimson Tide team that won the 2017 national title. After later losing the starting job to Tua Tagovailoa, Hurts handled the situation with maturity and became widely respected for his leadership, patience, and team-first attitude. In the 2018 SEC Championship Game, he came off the bench to lead Alabama to a comeback victory over Georgia, creating one of the most memorable moments of his college career.

Hurts transferred to the University of Oklahoma for the 2019 season and delivered a spectacular senior campaign. Playing in the Sooners’ high-powered offense, he became a Heisman Trophy finalist and finished as the Heisman runner-up. He was named first-team All-Big 12 and helped Oklahoma win the Big 12 Championship and reach the College Football Playoff. His success at Oklahoma confirmed his ability as both a passer and runner and helped improve his standing as an NFL prospect.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 53rd overall pick. After beginning his rookie season as a backup, he became a starter late in the year and gradually developed into the franchise quarterback. By the 2022 season, Hurts had emerged as one of the NFL’s elite players, earning Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors while leading Philadelphia to the NFC Championship and an appearance in Super Bowl LVII.

Hurts continued to build his reputation as a powerful, efficient, and composed quarterback. His ability to beat defenses with deep throws, designed runs, scrambles, short-yardage strength, and calm decision-making made him one of the most difficult players in football to defend. He became closely associated with the Eagles’ famous short-yardage quarterback sneak package, often called the “Brotherly Shove” or “Tush Push,” which became one of the league’s most talked-about plays.

In the 2024 season, Hurts helped guide the Eagles back to the top of the NFL. Philadelphia defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, and Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP after producing 293 total yards and three total touchdowns in the victory. The win gave Hurts his first Super Bowl championship and cemented his place among the most important quarterbacks in Eagles history.

With a college national championship, SEC honors, a Heisman finalist season, multiple Pro Bowl selections, an NFC championship, a Super Bowl championship, and a Super Bowl MVP award, Jalen Hurts has become one of the most recognizable and collectible names in modern football. His rookie cards, autographs, graded cards, jerseys, and Super Bowl memorabilia remain popular among collectors because of his success, leadership, marketability, and continued prime years as Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback.
