Chappell Roan
Bio
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, known professionally as Chappell Roan, exploded from small-town Missouri onto the global pop scene as the most exciting and unapologetically queer new artist of the 2020s. Raised in a conservative Christian home, she began posting original songs to YouTube as a teenager, signing to Atlantic Records at age 16 after a performance caught the label's attention. After a period of creative struggle and being dropped by Atlantic in 2020, she reinvented herself, moving back to Missouri and developing the drag-inspired, hyper-theatrical persona of "Chappell Roan." Signed to Island Records, she released her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (2023) to immediate cult acclaim. The album grew organically throughout 2024, fueled by viral TikTok moments, legendary festival performances (Coachella, Governors Ball), and an unflinching celebration of lesbian identity, drag culture, and late-night dive-bar energy. Songs like "Good Luck, Babe!" (a massive standalone single) and "Hot to Go!" became anthems, turning her into a mainstream headline act almost overnight. Known for her medieval-drag aesthetics, cover art inspired by The Night Before Christmas, and a devoted fanbase called her "Pink Pony Club," Chappell Roan represents a new kind of pop star: raw, theatrical, politically fearless, and deeply connected to queer joy and resilience.

The performance went massively viral, doubled her streaming numbers overnight, and transformed her from an indie favorite into a major festival headliner—all before she had ever scored a top-40 hit.

Genre: Pop / Indie pop / Synth-pop / Camp

Brief Description: Roan's debut album (released September 2023) entered the Billboard 200 at #127 before slowly climbing into the top 5 almost a full year later, driven by word-of-mouth and touring. It spawned the cult hits "Red Wine Supernova," "Casual," and "Hot to Go!"—the latter complete with its own audience-participation dance.
