C.J. Stroud
Bio
C.J. Stroud is an American football quarterback best known as the franchise quarterback of the Houston Texans and one of the most successful young passers in the NFL. Born in Rancho Cucamonga, California, Stroud developed into a standout high school quarterback before becoming one of the top quarterback recruits in the country. His accuracy, pocket presence, arm strength, and calm leadership helped make him one of the most highly regarded prospects of his era.
Stroud played college football at Ohio State, where he became the starting quarterback for one of the nation’s premier programs. After redshirting early in his career, he took over as the Buckeyes’ starter and quickly became one of college football’s most productive passers. In 2021, he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Big Ten Quarterback of the Year, and Big Ten Freshman of the Year while finishing as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
One of Stroud’s signature college performances came in the 2022 Rose Bowl, when he threw for 573 yards and six touchdowns in Ohio State’s 48-45 victory over Utah. He continued his elite play during the 2022 season, repeating as Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and Big Ten Quarterback of the Year. He again became a Heisman Trophy finalist and helped lead Ohio State to the College Football Playoff, further strengthening his reputation as one of the best quarterbacks in college football.
The Houston Texans selected Stroud with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He immediately became the centerpiece of the Texans’ rebuild under head coach DeMeco Ryans. As a rookie, Stroud delivered one of the best first seasons by a quarterback in NFL history, throwing for more than 4,000 yards with excellent efficiency and very few interceptions. His poise, accuracy, and ability to protect the football quickly separated him from most rookie quarterbacks.
During the 2023 season, Stroud set an NFL rookie single-game passing record with 470 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also helped lead Houston from a rebuilding team to an AFC South champion and playoff team. In his postseason debut, Stroud led the Texans to a Wild Card victory over the Cleveland Browns and became the youngest starting quarterback in NFL history to win a playoff game.
Stroud’s outstanding rookie year earned him AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, PFWA NFL Rookie of the Year, PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a Pro Bowl selection. His immediate impact restored excitement around the Texans franchise and made him one of the most valuable young quarterbacks in football memorabilia. His rookie cards, autographs, graded cards, jerseys, and playoff-related collectibles became especially popular with collectors because of his draft status, early records, and rapid rise.
In his second and third NFL seasons, Stroud continued to lead Houston as the Texans built around his passing ability and leadership. The team captured back-to-back AFC South titles in his first two seasons and earned a third consecutive playoff berth during the 2025 season. With a decorated Ohio State career, a No. 2 overall draft selection, Rookie of the Year honors, playoff success, and continued prime years ahead, C.J. Stroud remains one of the most important and collectible young names in modern football.
