Joseph John "Joe" Lando is an American actor best known for his charismatic leading-man roles in television, particularly his iconic portrayal of Byron Sully in the hit CBS western drama Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Born in Prairie View, Illinois, Lando initially pursued a career in culinary arts before relocating to Los Angeles to follow his passion for acting. After working a variety of jobs while auditioning, he landed small television and film roles during the 1980s, including an appearance as a security guard in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986).
Lando's career changed dramatically in 1993 when he was cast opposite Jane Seymour as mountain man Byron Sully in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
