Kylian Mbappé
Bio
Kylian Mbappé Lottin was born in Paris, France, to a Cameroonian father (Willy, a soccer coach) and an Algerian mother (Fayza Lamari, a former handball player). His adoptive older brother, Jirès Kembo Ekoko, was also a professional footballer. From the age of six, Mbappé was trained by his father at AS Bondy, the same club where he would later be scouted by AS Monaco at age 14. He made his professional debut for Monaco in 2015 at just 16 years and 347 days, breaking Thierry Henry's record as the youngest first-team player in club history. In 2016, he helped Monaco win Ligue 1 and reach the Champions League semifinals, scoring six goals in the competition as a teenager. In August 2017, he joined Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan that became a permanent €180 million transfer — making him the most expensive teenager and second-most expensive player ever. At PSG, Mbappé has won multiple Ligue 1 titles, Coupe de France trophies, and established himself as the face of French football. On the international stage, he exploded onto the world at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, becoming the first teenager since Pelé (1958) to score in a World Cup final, netting France's fourth goal in a 4-2 victory over Croatia. He finished the tournament with four goals and won the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award. In the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, Mbappé delivered arguably the greatest single-game performance in World Cup history: scoring a hat trick — including two goals in the final 90 seconds of regulation and another in extra time — becoming only the second player ever to score a hat trick in a men's World Cup final. He converted his penalty in the shootout, but France fell to Lionel Messi's Argentina in a 4-2 shootout after a 3-3 draw. He finished the 2022 tournament with eight goals, winning the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer. Mbappé joined Real Madrid in July 2024 on a free transfer, ending a six-year pursuit by the Spanish giants and signing a five-year contract. Known for his explosive acceleration — reaching speeds of 36 km/h (22.4 mph) — devastating finishing, and coolness under pressure, Mbappé has already been named to the FIFA FIFPro World11 multiple times, won multiple Ligue 1 Player of the Year awards, and is widely considered the heir to the Messi-Ronaldo throne. Off the pitch, he is known for his prolific charitable work through the Inspired by KM foundation, which provides sport and education access to children in underprivileged neighborhoods in France. Whether sprinting past three defenders at full speed, smashing a left-footed rocket into the top corner, or stepping up to take a World Cup final penalty without a hint of fear, Kylian Mbappé has already secured his place among football's immortals — and at just 26 years old, the best is almost certainly yet to come.
